This problem started some two weeks back has continued and is continuing :
On this machine (an hp Pavilion)I have AOL 9.0 running on Windows XP Home Edition. For some unaccountable reason I cannot read e-mails nor can I send them.As a bonus, once I click on to the 'Read' icon the system freezes and I can't switch off the AOL nor can I surf the web: I have to log off completely and restart (and not try e-mails ) When trying to open the inbox all I get is a message saying that there is a fault and I should try again later.
1-) Fred did you scan for viruses? Did you scan for spywares? Were those programs updated lately? Besides e-mails, is your computer affected in other areas?

The remedy is to reinstall AOL..It does glitch at the most awkward moments
All you do is Insert the AOL disk in the CD Drive install as updating the AOL software and sign on as a current member (Forgot the order) and it will transfer the settings over to the new installation (lose nothing) and you can delete the old version/s afterwards with No issues Takes about 10 minutes. Another way of viewing your AOL email and have an AOL browser (which is not tied to the CD) Is to download and install AOL Explorer (which is available to everyone) Some small issues with it. Items such as it displays the US news and Links (still not final version) But apart from those its a very good program http://downloads.channel.aol.com/browser Takes less than a minute to download with Broadband and can run with the main AOL program running

Magic ! Didn't need it: downloaded it via the hp computer. They must be designing these new machines for old computer illiterates and amnesiacs like me ( and others who Terry Wogan calls TOGs: 'Terry's Old Geezers' ) Thanks
