Since last Wed 18-Feb 2009 I've not been able to send or recieve my e-mail on my PC within Outlook 2003. We get an error message that there is an unknown problem with the synchronization but no clues as to how to fix it. The linked Hotmail account is working fine. Online hints indicate that I need to delete the account on my PC and recreate it. I'm hoping someone knows of a more benign fix.

I suggest you look in the Outlook Help for:
Synchronize offline folders

See if anything in this section applies to your setup.

If that doesn't help, post again. Are you using Microsoft Exchange Server for your mail?

I gave up. Apparently you need a hotmail-plus account to interface with outlook about 20$/year. I was easily able to link our Comcast account to outlook so it's not the software on my machine. Thanks for the hints. We'll just use the MSN account online.
