As a lot of people on this site on this site know that I Know how to keep Spamming down to a minimum (Follow all the rules to the letter Wink)
And it works 99% of the time
However last night I came across something on the AOL service which people should be aware of.. (and the consequences Frown)
Just before 2 in the morning I recieved an email for an AOL member For something or other(Spam Mad) followed seconds later by another(same addy) and another... Eekfor about 5 minutes the Email "alert" noise was sounding like a machine gun! Would be funny under normal circumstances Confused
Eventually I had 65(Counted them!) Identical messages from this 1 address Mad Eek
So I have several options available to me Block - report or delete or a combination?
I chose to block the address and Report>Forward the email to AOL Cosmail who act on these things, and as It was from an Aol address there is another address they are sent to called :CosUK
(North American members ect. will be different)
To continue, I have this list of 60+ Spam messeges so I do the "Right Thing" slowly but surely I worked down the list sending them off to the Cosmail people... Smile
I had about 40 sent off, when all of a sudden a message flashes up on the screen asking for my password and I typed it in and I got kicked offline Confused
Tried to get back online and the same message came up and the same result(Even on all my 5 other screen names Frown Confused
Server Issue? Roll Eyes
I went to bed. And first thing I ring up the AOL Helpline (after I tried connecting up again with no joy Frown)
And they told me I was blocked for sending Spam! Red Face Eek Confused from my address! Confused
But when I told them about the Spammer above and what I did (As is my right Smile) they gave me a temporary password to log on and restore passwords (they thought I had been Spamdexed (Address harvested) Mad or affected by a virus? Mad
But,in reality I was being a good neighbor and telling them what they wanted to hear, Winkand it nearly backfired on me Red Face
Imagine this happening to an inexperienced Internet user.It makes them look as if they have been victimised or even the source?! Confused Frown

You MAY have a virus.... namely "MYDOOM".... my son caught it on his computer last night & there was a slew of outgoing emails eventhough his email was not even on.... the only way we know it was trying to send out was he had 15 - 20 Norton outgoing emails....
