And it works 99% of the time
However last night I came across something on the AOL service which people should be aware of.. (and the consequences
)
Just before 2 in the morning I recieved an email for an AOL member For something or other(Spam
) followed seconds later by another(same addy) and another...
for about 5 minutes the
Email "alert" noise was sounding like a machine gun! Would be funny under normal circumstances
Eventually I had
65(Counted them!) Identical messages from this 1 address
So I have several options available to me Block - report or delete or a combination?
I chose to block the address and Report>Forward the email to
AOL Cosmail who act on these things, and as It was from an Aol address there is another address they are sent to called :
CosUK(North American members ect. will be different)
To continue, I have this list of 60+ Spam messeges so I do the
"Right Thing" slowly but surely I worked down the list sending them off to the Cosmail people...
I had about 40 sent off, when all of a sudden a message flashes up on the screen asking for my password and I typed it in and I got kicked offline
Tried to get back online and the same message came up and the same result(Even on all my 5 other screen names
Server Issue?
I went to bed. And first thing I ring up the AOL Helpline (after I tried connecting up again with no joy
)
And they told me I was blocked for sending Spam!
from my address!
But when I told them about the Spammer above and what I did (As is my right
) they gave me a temporary password to log on and restore passwords (they thought I had been
Spamdexed (Address harvested)
or affected by a virus?
But,in reality I was being a good neighbor and telling them what they wanted to hear,
and it nearly backfired on me
Imagine this happening to an inexperienced Internet user.It makes them look as if they have been victimised or even the source?!
