Yesterday morning (22 July) on flight AA 960 some security alert occurred. When we arrived in Miami, the plane was surrounded by security cars. We were advised by Captain from intercom that we were being met by Customs at the door and to individually have passports available. We each had to show passport exiting plane, once, twice, three times, and along the way were met by groups of about 10 armed security guards and again had to clear them. Who or what they were looking for, unknown. I did hear one guard making the statement the "the person matches the description". There was one very large,,,,,tall, heavy muscle bound build mN, 30's, caucasian type on the plane that several times attempted to go from the back section to the front rest room and was told to go back to his area and use that restroom. After his first attempt the intercom came on and we were told we were not to use the First class restroom if we were not in that section, and not to conglomerate around the restrooms. He made at least two other attempts to come forward, and the steward stopped him politely and told him to return to his section. A certain colored light turned on (not saying where or color as this may be a security signal) and remained on during the flight. It was small, but definitely something new which I had never observed previously. Nothing unusual other than that occurred during the flight. If they caught anyone on that flight or any other flight I do not know. There were other groups of armed security guards headed to the are of the airplane as I headed towards customs. Customs check in was also very tight, close scrutiny of passports. One US resident lady caucasian was stopped in front of me and taken away. All I heard was the agent ask her was something about whether she had visited all these different countries. The interesting thing at this point is that there occurred a change of agents at that counter where the lady was just prior to her turn came up. And besides this new agent there were 4 additional guards around that same counter. I wonder if she and this other individual I mentioned earlier where traveling together... just occurred to me that they were working together. Within a minute, a female agent was there and she was taken somewhere for questioning. Ok, just wanted to relate that there is apparant increased security and we should feel comfortable that the system seems to be working. charlie

I Googled "flight + 960 + Miami" (Results 91 - 100 of about 5,160 for flight + 960 + Miami) and the first 10 pages showed nothing relating to what poor Charlie went through. (I did find this a great deal: Edison Hotel South Beach United States Miami Beach 960 Ocean Drive 33139. I even found this: List of Elevators under Miami-Dade County Jurisdiction File Format: PDF.) I will look at more pages as time goes by, but I doubt that I will find anything. This one sounds bogus. I am sure that airline security is better than it was. It almost has to be, doesn't it? Fitzzs, if you find any more on this, please post it. Until then, this goes in the National Enquirer "Bat Boy" file.
