Around Africa, Juliet? It's one heck of a big place ! If you mean to see the whole continent you'll need years. What are you looking for? East Africa has the famous wildlife and safaris, and some good beach resorts, and South Africa has a lot in a small space, including the wildlife.
West Africa has.....umm....well, there's a nice beach in the Gambia (and a river) and Nigeria, the most important country there, can be interesting but is not very tourist friendly. Let's be frank, it's not friendly to anyone much! West Africa could be interesting if you want the history of the slave trade.
North Africa has Egypt, well worth a tour in itself if you are into Ancient Egypt, and Morocco and Tunisia have some interesting ancient sites, mostly Roman.
And what we might call central Africa, the 'interior', the Congo and all that, is better suited to professional naturalists than to tourists.
Remember, Africa is not well equipped for travelling around. You can't just hop on a plane there and pick any destination.
dg, as if I care. I just love the opportunity to show what a world traveller and sophisticate I am; author of " 40 Days up the Khyber" "A Short Guide to the Kush" "Hidden Byways of Croydon", "Cambridge without a Bus Pass" etc ; which spammers and chancers need to know. (AB-ers know already)

[I did know people whose conversation was like that because they'd lived the life. One once said casually, by way of explanation in some long narrative, " We had to invite the Bishop of Khartoum, since he'd married us..." ]
My sincere apologies for my sporadic diving practice into Answerpool's depths of joy... work & all that, you know... but Fred! Having worked in the Middle East for several years I can tell you (as if you did not know) that
quote:
A Short Guide to the Kush
is even more likely to provoke lively debate than Juan's observations on, "40 Days Up the Khyber". As a married man of some 40 years myself (really; we married in 69 , what joyful avenues and byways can you take us on with those two numbers??? )I can assure our readers that there is no short 'Guide to the Kush', so save your money, and just do what she tells you to do... By the way, and this is sure to detract from whatever kudos I may have acquired over the past six years...sorry, but...
I adore the 'Carry On' films!
Mrs Ritzmar is appalled by them...

...On an ever-so-slightly more serious note, does it worry anyone here that some people think that Africa is a country? Please have a look at this ...unbelievable!

Of course they are, dg, but I love you for caring about them. Me? ...12.30am here. I need my beauty sleep, so must leave. Pity, sometimes I really love this place... Nighty-night, however xxxx

My dear Ritz, after having taught at the university level for what seems like forever, I am never surprised at what people think they know. On a side note, this is like old times: a question is asked, and the thread gets hijacked. That was standard fare years ago.

Let's give Juliet the benefit of the doubt. She didn't say, in terms, that 'africa' is a country and she posts from India , not Indiana, (there may be a town called India in North America, of course). And India is itself a country which is almost a whole sub continent (although Britons call Indians, and others from it, 'Asians'. What do Americans call such people?)
The blonde contestant has a vote, inter alia, on which party or candidate's foreign policy is best.
Yes Ritz, and 'Carry on up the Khyber' is the best, don't you think? The Regiment of the Third Foot and Mouth, the Burpas, the Khazi of Kalibar, Sir Sidney Ruff-Diamond and all the rest really do bring the Raj to life!
'Carry on Screaming' is good too, but I feel that 'Carry On at Your Convenience' lacks a certain fundamental element.
I really have to wonder about the odds of one person from India asking a question about a travel agency servicing another continent, and, amazingly, another person from India giving an answer. What really makes the odds even greater is that BOTH THE ORIGINAL POSTER AND THE PERSON SUPPLYING THE ANSWER LIVE IN THE SAME CITY IN INDIA! I mean, really, the odds must be, what 3 to 1 or 4 to 1 at least.
On the other hand, any thread that brings Ritz back even for a moment is a good thread.
