Make your own Kahlua
1 quart water
3 cups sugar
12 tbsp instant coffee
2 & 1/2 cups 100 proof vodka
2 tbsp vanilla

Bring water, sugar and coffee to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for two hours. Cool and add vodka and vanilla. Serve or bottle.

I was just about to post the following recipe Kittypal and found yours. I must try that one as well.

I've had this one for at least 25 years and make it once a year. You can use either Vodka or Brandy. (I use Brandy)

1 whole vanilla bean
4 cups sugar
2 oz. instant coffee
2 cups boiling water
a fifth of either Brandy or Vodka

Dissolve sugar and coffee in boiling water.
Let cool.
Pour into large jug. (I use a gallon wine bottle for this)
Add Brandy and vanilla bean

Seal in jug for at least 30 days. The longer you age this the better it is.

Yes, when we made it, we let it set for a month or two also
