The Cadbury Egg
(makes 2 dozen candy eggs)

1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
2 3/4 cups powdered sugar
4 drops yellow food coloring
2 drops red food coloring
12oz bag milk chocolate chips
2 tbsps. vegetable shortening

Combine the corn syrup, butter, vanilla and salt in a large bowl. Beat well with an electric mixer until smooth.

Add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing by hand after each addition. Mix well until creamy.

Remove about 1/3 of the mixture and place into a small bowl. Add the yellow and red food coloring to make orange and stir well to combine. Cover both mixtures and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm.

When mixtures are firm, roll a small, marble-size ball from the orange filling, and wrap a portion of the white filling around it that is roughly twice the size. Form this filling into the shape of an egg and place it onto a cookie sheet that has been brushed with a light coating of shortening. Repeat for the remaining filling ingredients, then refrigerate these centers for 3 to 4 hours or until firm.

Combine the milk chocolate chips with the shortening into a glass or ceramic bowl. Microwave chocolate on high speed for 1 minute, then stir gently and microwave again for 1 more minute, and stir gently. Be very careful not to overcook the chocolate or it could seize up and become unusable.

Use a fork to dip each center in the chocolate, tap the fork on the side of the bowl, then place each candy on wax paper. Chill.

After 1 to 2 hours of chilling, dip each candy once more and chill for several hours, or until completely firm.

I made those already they are good but i didn't follow the directions about thinning out the chocolate with the shortening so when you melt Chocolate (plus i used semi sweet chocolate ) its really thick uless you thin it out. so i got quite a bit of chocolate on the balls that i rolled up. and the chocolate being so hot made the middle start to melt so they kind of started to flatten out but not much cause i stuck them in the fridge right away.

You actually invested that much time Oceanaa? Wow - my hat off to you! And thanks for the review. So now we know that they are at least edible. Did they taste anything like the store bought ones?

As much as I LOVE Cadbury's Milk Chocolate, I've always found the Creme Eggs even too sweet for ME Roll Eyes

Looks like a great recipe though!
