ELI is the (E) voltage in an (L) inductor which leads the (I)current. I got that. ELI

Now how is ICE related to this? I don't get the second part of the phrase ELI the ICE man.

Current doesn't lead voltage. Or does it? Or when the current DOES lead the voltage, it is ELI? I thought that I lags E. Or can it be either way?

P.S. This is getting tricky lol

ELI Inductive circuit...... Voltage arrives before Current .
ICE Capacitive circuit... Current arrives before Voltage.

Think about it this way: the current that flows through any circuit depends on the Voltage and the impedance, In a strictly Direct Current circuit the current in Amperes is dirctly proportional to the voltage and inversely proportional to the resistance. In DC circuits the impedance is resistance, but in AC circuits the impedance, Z, depends on the resistance and the reactance. If there is inductance the impedance is a combination (a vector sum) of resistance and reactance. If there is capacitance the impedance is a vector sum of resistance and capacitive reactance. AC circuits are said to be lagging or leading or resonant. In a resonant circuit the lagging effect of the inductance present can be cancelled by a capacitance such that ,for a given frequency, the leading current and the lagging current are 180 degrees apart (one leads by 90 and one lags by 90)so they cancel each other and the total impedance is the resistance. Resistance, and both Inductive and capacitive reactance are measured in Ohms.

As of this post, I passed all 12 electrical modules. I just took another electrical class this week and passed that test today. (whew) I now have a really good grasp on basic electricity. I will be taking another 3 week class out of state. I actually understand Frank's post. I get it. Cool.

Faced with a whole battery of tests, Clare charged through and overcame all resistance. Clare, I can't say that I'm shocked at this news. You conducted yourself admirably, and your ability shines through. Watt's next for our bright girl? (Just remember to keep current on any new developments.)

Congratulations, sweetie. It's no less than I would expect from an "enthusiast of the year". The sky's your limit! Wink
