I wasn't sure where to post this, but I figured it concerns physics, so I put it here.
I live in a dorm and everything in my room that is metal shocks me. Along with that my hair has become really frizzy. However, I find when I leave my room for an extended period of time, the static in my hair dissapears, only to reappear as soon as I enter my room again. Can anyone explain why this is? And if you can, how do I get rid of it? If you could help me, I would really appreciate it.

I'm guessing it's because you have a carpet which is rubbing electrons from your feet when you walk on it, making you positively charged and a nice target for the electrons in all the metal objects in your room.

Two solutions come to mind: (1) roll up your carpet and pitch it; (2) wear rubber-soled shoes whenever you're home.

HOPE THERE ISN'T ANY LOOSE WIRE!!!
Not Kidding,
this is what once happened in our..(uhhh.....okieee, no need to feel embarrassed in telling it was your BathRoom cum tiolet!)
whenever I'd attempt to twisting the tap open (and I never enter my bathroom without slippers on) or move in to the bathing cubicle using the Metallic slide,
I'd get the SHOCK of my Life!
(my juicy-gossipy-female intincts wanted to tell me it is some evil soul out to get me, HOWEVER,) when we called in the plumber we figured some termite had eaten up part of our wiring....

It sounds like the static charge building up from the carpet to me. before pitching it does it help to spray product like StaticGard or equivelant? I've seen the problem too with wiring problems as stated on a stove/plumbing problem. The Grounding is often connected to plumbing in older homes.. If the strap across the meter is broken or corrosion has occured as an insulation barrier the ground path is broken and no longer works. Using a volt meter to one of your metal parts of your problem room. If <110 volts it shouldn't make your hair stand up but may indicate the electrical problem.
good luck
