Hello,
It's me again with a different question about mobiles.
big grin
I've noticed an occurence.

Whenever a mobile phone rings near an audio-output source like a fixed-phone reciever earpiece or even a computer audio speaker, the output source emits a periodic buzzing sound.

Why does this happen?

Bye.

It sounds like you're talking about feedback. basically whatever sound is heard in the input is then played through the output. the input hears the original sound plus the additional sound from the output. this is then played through the output. this cycle continues and creates a much louder sound than the original. (the same thing often happens if a microphone is positioned too close to a speaker.)

Hi Methos5000,
U know,I've my username as Chronos on another discussion forum smile Chronos means Time in Greek, wonder what Methos means? wink

Well Methos5000,I guess I wasn't talking about feedback. What I've observed is that the buzzing sound occurs when a call is incoming to a GSM mobile phone(but before the phone rings)or when the mobile phone is turned on and it establishes contact with a base-station.All this means that the buzzing is somehow caused by Radio-Wave communication between the phone and the base-station and it's a result of Electro-Magnetic Interference between the phone and the audio-output source, somehow
confused

Oh Hi again
QBIT.
Guess you are really enjoying your time here
(and perhaps utilizing it more in the way of making freinds, actually, seemingly!
Was the mIRC the first gateway to the internet for you ?)

Yes,
I think I get what you are talking about.
What, I think, happens is:

when the mobile recieves a call i.e. a signal, it generates an audio signal (a sound wave). This interferes with other such receptors around it, such as the TV, or the radio etc. As recieving signals is part of the function of such objects,
they thus pick up the signal too

and result in the buzzing-like sound you are talking about.

Hope its logical and simple enough for you,

Methos, a character on the "Highlander" series, is the oldest immortal. His age is given as 5000+ years. That is my understanding of Methos5000's nickname. Perhaps Methos5000 will chime in if this is not so.

The Greek mythos means "Myth" or "mythology."

Good going with the name coldfuse, that's exactly where I got it.
My guess on where the show's creators got the name though is that it comes from whatever word chemists used to get methane, methanol, methyl, etc. (these all have 1 carbon) since his other name on the show was Adam (the biblical 1st man) and I beleive the second oldest character on the show was referred to at least once as Ethos (as in ethane, ethanol, ethyl which all have 2 carbons).

Hi there qbit

Glad to note that you have simmered down abit now
and
are continuing in quite positive notes smile

Umn
thnx for commending on the emoticons I (like to) use. Well, that I am able to add through the MYSMILLIES link given below.

Anyhow.
Coming to your query.
Here GOes:

Aaaaaaah, let me start by explaining what happens when someone rings our mobile.
By dialing our number (analogue or digital instruction) they are sending a signal to the mobile. There is this whole procedure of conversions of the signal (from analogue to electrical to blah blah blah). Then the mobile device receives this signal (or, picks up this signal) and creates or results in a sound wave. This is the ringing of the bell_ a way to tell us mortals that someone is trying to reach us!
Umn, now why don't you try and imagine/visualise what the sound wave would be like. A round, spiralling, expanding thingee. (Most probably the original signals received by the mobile_invisible to the naked eye_have a wave such as this too. I admit I have no idea of the technicalities as yet)
This then interferres with any other objects (umn, well it could be almost anything) which have function
which tells them to receive signals.
(Umn, using the TV example again. How do we see the picture on the screen? It is infinite signals sent via the satellite which results in what we see) That particular object[s] too respond to the signal
and thus
there is this disturbance , cutting off sort of,
which you are talking about.
red face Hope I tried well enough,
