I wasn't sure where to ask this question - but since the bugs are coming inside from my garden - I'll ask here...

Earwigs or Pincher bugs - I know these are one in the same - - but why are they SO abundant this year? They are coming inside my house and I'm not certain how to get rid of them. Is there any safe way that anyone knows of? These bugs just make me all "eeuueyyyy" - they are just plain gross.

Any suggestions welcomed!!

The best defense for earwigs in your house is simply to vacum them up.

that's what I've been doing - - then I have to throw away the bag - - I have visions of these things crawling out of the bag, through the hose and back onto the floor to come and get me while I sleep.....pinch-pinch

These critters love the dampness! If you have anything - including a dish drain tray, that may become a bit damp underneath... look for them there!

They lurk in ANYTHING that is slightly damp. They LOVE that!

They sure are gross!

You'll all apprecitate this story, since you're obviously all as grossed out by these bugs as I am!

Years ago, when we bought our first house, one wall of the kitchen had these boards nailed up on them to give a rustic look...I think they were from a barn or something.

I hated the look, so one day when I was at work, hubby took the boards down. Luckily I wasn't home, because he told me that when he pulled the boards down, a colony of earwigs apparently lived there and there were thousands of them in the kitchen!

I would have absolulutely freaked out at this, so I'm forever grateful that he did this when I wasn't home!

Also, luckily, he was able to get rid of them all before I got home that day! I hate these critters! They creep me out almost as much as Black Widow Spiders!

Well, they have the freakiest bodies... and ONE BIT ME ONCE!! I didn't know before that, that they can bite.

They are pretty much pre-historic looking. AND the TALE of the guy who had an earwig crawl into his ear... (remember that?) He went MENTAL with this thing crawling around in his brain!!! His doctor finally told him that - that particular earwig was pregnant and all of the babies were hatching!!!!

ARGHHH.... remember this was only a story...I'm not trying to be mean...... It's an old story or old wive's tale.

smile

ANYBODY remember this???
