I'm going to plant irises and bleeding hearts by the wall of my house this spring where it is sunny in the morning but shady in the afternoon. How much sun do these flowers need? How fast do irises grow from the little onions? And how fast do bleeding hearts grow? Are the flowers easy to take care of? Eek

Hi Chippy. Bleeding hearts (dicentra spectabilis) need plenty sun and moist freedraining soil. Mine are flowering about now so new plants won't flower 'til next april. The roots are very brittle so once planted don't move them. Iries need hot sun. plant so that the top of the root is half exposed.Plant now for july flowering.

My bleeding hearts are in a
shady area and they are majorly
unbelievable! They pop out of the
ground in early spring.. or before
and go crazy!! It's massive and
gorgeous now...

Mine have been flowering for some
time now.. and will continue to
do so until the end of the summer!

Take a look at THIS
