Hi!

A lovely lady gave me some seeds for
a datura plant. I can't wait until
it grows up!

Has anyone had any experience with
this particular plant? The information
that I read on the net sounds very
interesting.

Cool

I know it is technically a weed and it is very hardy and reproduces quite a lot. Be prepared for a big show.

Technically, it's not a flowering plant, it is a medicinal herb. It's also known as "jimson weed" (but not a weed) or angels trumpets. The whitish/purple flower will open late in the afternoon and has a strong peppery scent. It's considered too to be in the MoonFlower family. All parts of it are poisonous so not recommended that you eat it. It will spread much like a zuccini or a pumpkin plant, but won't seed itself in other areas of your garden. In the fall, the spiney bulb piece will have seeds you can collect (once dried) and you can save these for planting again next year.
It's a cool plant - enjoy!!!

I have one!!! Wink
I have had it for the past 3 years and plant the seeds again in the spring because it does not seem to come back on its own.

HOLY MOLY!!

This is better than email!! You're right on it, Lyd!

Thanks for your info! Seeing as it does NOT come back each year.. the weed status is lost for good, as far as I'm concerned!

Thank you! You are a lovely lady!

Smile
