Larry Checkon, in his pumpkin patch in Northern Cambria, keeps his eye on his prized 1,469-pound pumpkin. Shortly after this photo was taken, Checkon's pumpkin was taken to a weigh-in in Altoona and set a world record. - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Saturday, October 08, 2005

I was Upstate New York in Cooperstown early this October. There was a pumpkin weighing in the parking lot of Doubleday Field. There were some really big pumpkins there. Andy Wolf’s pumpkin weighed in at 1407.3 pounds while not a world record, it was one large pumpkin that now holds the New York State record.
