I'm trying to identify a plant that my Aunt always called an October Daisy. They are perenials. The plants resemble bushes. There are single woody like stems that come from the center of the bush/plant, with each stem having only one flower come fall. The flowers look like a daisy with white petals and a yellow center. Leaves on the stems are fleshy like. Any idea what this is?

There are many different varieties of asters - but given the description that you give and the time it blooms, I would say that aster is your likely plant. There is one in particular (Aster ptarmicoides) that especially likes dry, sandy soil.
