How expensive is that pre-grown grass that comes in strips (that you roll out and place into a level plain of ground)? Can grass grow indoors in a well-lit area.. like an indoor court yard (with sky-lights, not open air)?

There are many kinds of grass. Roll out lawns (turf) come in various kinds, usually a mix of bermuda and fescu.

Bermuda grasses make long runners, fescues spread by seed only.

There are Fescues which do best in shade and would most likely work best in an indoor situation.

http://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheets/hgic1202.htm has some information which may help you.

Well, Sher, it's a lot more costly than starting your grass from seed. Our greens superintendant has his own turf farm and does a really good business. The link I'm providing is not HIS business, but just some general information.

Turf may be more costlier initially, but it's instant! The firm I use charges £1.50, (just under $3) per square metre, delivered.
Seeded lawns need a lot more care and attention. Birds will come and eat the seed if not protected and seeded lawns can grow patchy if seed is not sown equally. You will need to keep all animals kids etc off the lawn for weeks until it is established.

Have a look at this!
