Thank you so much for the info. There was a row of cedar trees between ours and our neighbour's house that got totally out of hand, and we finally had them taken down. I am definitely looking for something that doesn't grow too high. It was far too shady with those big cedar trees. I would prefer a hedge no higher than 8 ft. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks again.
I was trying to find hedges local to Bristish Columbia but didn't have much luck. So instead here is a link covering different types of Trees and Shrubs for Privacy that lists a wide variety of shrubs and their growth rate. Perhaps you can check out the list (pictures included on each link) and find one that is suitable for your needs and for Canadian weather. P.S. I did find a site that said shrubs should be planted in early June and watered well.
