Hey guys...
I was wondering if ANYONE out there has a quality drop lawn spreader they can recommend...I just trashed a Scott's broadcast spreader because of its flimsy design; the nuts/bolts on the handles always came loose and affected the coverage rate..any suggestions in a one piece design? Thanks

Wink

Hey Bob, I've got a drop spreader that I'll give ya! I don't like them because I could never get even coverage from it. The slot in the bottom would clog in places. And if you aren't careful to slightly overlap your tracks you end up with streaks in your lawn when spreading fertilizers. I now have a broadcast spreader. I like it much better. It's a Scott's. You can replace the nuts with nyloc ones for about $.10 each. They will not come loose.

Thanks teecee--

I had a broadcast one--just hard to know the coverage area when fertilizing and couldn't keep the nuts tight..--at least with a drop one, you can put the setting at half the coverage rate and do perpendicular passes--Oh well, I'd like one that DOES NOT fold--to eliminate the need for nuts altogether --I just want one that WORKS--and I'll keep the nyloc nuts in mind--Thanks.. Smile

My two cents - Ok, $1.50, I usually write novels.

I have found that the most durable and easiest used broadcaster for seed is my hands. Yes, I do get lines of dense grass at times, but it is far easier and less annoying than using a machine. I over seed every two years.

Fertilizer and the lawn is mostly compost and composted chicken manurer, thus I use the wheeled drop spreader which is old, like 1960's old - and is adjustable for seed and for bigger stuff like manure.

I have seen a similar one (mostly plastic Mad) put out by Scott's brand, it may work for a small suburban lawn (if that is what you have)

Has on on it, price is 24.00, I bet shipping and handling is pretty high.

I have seen metal spreaders at yard sales, you may want to go out and hunt one up, flea markets may work too.

Cheers
