Ok can somebody please explain to me, why I just planted garlic that has to sit in my garden all winter, and wont be up until next spring? Is there a fast way to get garlic to grow and why does it take so long.

The Stinking Rose

The reason for planting garlic before winter and harvesting after is that garlic needs to have more root growth than top growth. (After all, you don't eat the top.) While you certainly can't see it, the bulbs will grow almost until the ground freezes. When spring comes, the top growth starts showing more, letting you know that the bulb is just about ready to dug up and enjoy. Note that most gardening hints about garlic advise you to not allow the above ground part to flower. The flowering takes energy away from the part you want to grow.

How to Make Garlic Beer

According to The Stinking Rose Restaurant in San Francisco, chewing caraway seeds and parsley after eating garlic helps eliminate the odor.

When crushed or finely chopped it yields allicin, a powerful antibiotic and anti-fungal compound. It also contains alliin, ajoene, enzymes, vitamin B, minerals, and flavonoids.
Remember, garlic repels vampires, too !

Terrific!!!!!!!1 thanks a bunch DG......heheheh.

When I plant stuff I want to see the results the same year I plant, so I dont have the patience to wait for this garlic to come up next spring, but I will give it a shot and it helps to know why it takes so long. I planted a &^%* load of it, so you may be getting some in the mail next spring heheheh

Oh have patience, psych major! Harvesting your very own garlic is a wonderful experience.

When you buy it from a grocery store, who knows how long it's been sitting in storage!?!?! When you harvest your own, you know that you'll have "fresh" garlic for months and months to come.
