I love all the perennial grasses. I have a few in an island in my backyard. Last summer (2001), I planted a beautiful zebra grass. I wasn't sure what to do with it at season's end. I did nothing. When I cut it back in the early spring there were some green shoots at ground level. It has been struggling all summer. It's not dead, but I would have expected it to be bigger during its second season. Any advice would be appreciated. I am in NE Ohio
I followed JerseyTomato's URL and it does say to cut it to the ground for winter. I did that for the past 2 years and my zebra grass has taken off like crazy. As long as it's still green and appears healthy - - I'd hang in there for next year and see how it goes...
You know what they say about gardening - - if it doesn't take - - give it another season - - if it still doesn't take - move it to another less visible area in your garden - if it STILL doesn't take - - give up on it and give it the toss.....
I do hope it does better next year though - - just may surprise ya!~!
