They are annuals. Smile

Morning Glory

Did you know? The Morning Glory family includes Moonflowers that only bloom at night. Cool

Thanks Clarebear, that's what I thought -but someone said she thought they were perennial and I was all "oh no, did I cut them down last fall for no reason???" Guess not.
I have them growing up a tree now but they're not really blooming. Not enough sun. I was thinking about the mailbox or the basketball hoop for next season. Smile

Morning Glories are an annual, but they will reseed themselves pretty easily and come back the following year. The other thing you could do is to collect the seeds, save them and plant them late in the spring. I've been growing the same morning glories year after year for about 6 years now. Of course, if you're not getting any flowers, you won't be able to collect the seeds, but if you start over again next year, you'll definitely have them for years to come.

As for letting them grow up the basketball hoop, they'll need some encouragement to wrap around the pole since there's not really anything for the vines to grab ahold of. I plant them in 3 or 4 places around my garden and use clear fishing line to create a mechanism for them to grow on to.

That's a great idea, Lydia! Thanks!

...Interesting. Too bad I'm about 3000 miles away from the picking fields... I'd love to see the pink morning glories.

the blue ones are very pretty i like those but this is the first ive seen them in the wild sence ive moved back to calif.
the pink ones are pink with a bit of white mixxed in there pretty too. they grow onto everything here so the farmers want them dead but they are very strong plants and they seem to get stronger with more weed killer usage

Ack! Mutant morning glories! Be careful when they start to grow teeth and eat your pets -it's only the beginning... Wink

Oh boy...Morning Glories...

Although they are awfully pretty, they really DO choke out other plants when not kept in their own area.

I was supposed to go tend mom's garden just about the time I injured my shoulder, so wasn't able to, and she hasn't found an industrious teen that wants to make a few bucks. Roll Eyes

I happened to be up at her house a couple of days ago and the Morning Glories have absolutely TAKEN OVER!!!!

I hope to get Steph up there this weekend or next to clean out all the vines before they do damage to other plants! We're having such a beautiful late season here that they're just running rampant Eek

yes they do tend to take over for sure hence why there called weeds here to the farmers.
but they are very pretty. i would think if you put them into pots they would do great. humm
maybe i should try that.
