Anyone have reccomendations for some of the bigger houseplants (the kind that are big enough to sit on the floor) that will do good in a house that has great light, but NOT direct sunlight??? Thanks, I am tired of my fake ficus!!
Ok. then get a real fichus. They like bright light (not direct) and a stable environment. That essentially means that if you do get one you find a place (preferably away from vents and heating and cooling sources) where it will live.
Fichus do drop leaves when moved. However once they adjust to their environment they stop all that leaf drop.
Avocado trees will grow indoors to incredible sizes - Down side is that they need direct sunlight to produce fruit. But if you are looking for a tree inside, avocado is good.
You can get trellis and forms for growing vine plants and ivies, many do well in doors in shade, etc and you can train them to meet any form.
Dracaenas (Dragon’s Blood) do well in bright light and do not need direct light. They too will adapt to the environment. There are a few varieties that will grow tall.
Sago Palms do well in shady spots – but they are slow, slow growers. The one we have is 40 years old and is as tall as me. When it was planted it came in a 5 gallon bucket. Other palms prefer direct sun light.
Some ever greens will do well in certain bright light situations.
So will some citrus, however the fruit of the shaded citrus tree will not be that good.

Thanks David, I think I will go to the nursery this weekend and see what they have...I also need to make sure that it is not harmful to puddy cats in case they decide to taste whatever I get.
Oh, well that is a horse of a different color. Strike Dragon's blood - cat's love to eat that Not that its posionus (at least my cats didn't die from eating it) it kills the plant.
Also, you can grow potted grass (not pot grass) for the cat(s). We have a 18" x 18" "lawn" up by the food bowl for the cat.

LOL, I would love to grow grass, but have a cop next door!!
I did buy cat grass, the cats ignored it...we also have a ton of wild catnip that grows everywhere here, we are always trying to get rid of it and have some potted for the kitty cats. they love it and the neighborhood strays hang around it too!!
