Spring is here and that means my plants are coming back and the deer are looking for them. Eek Does any one know of any effective Deer repellants that you've used if bought in a store or made your self (home remedy)? I've tried many different types but deer just see right through it. Mad

Just out of (unhelpful) interest, what kind of deer are they that you get?

We get Reeve's muntjac on this farm. They are very attractive little things to some (forestry men, whose trees they attack, are more inclined to say they are like pigs, which, in size, they almost are) but I can guarantee that there's no chemical deterrent that works with them. They are not stupid. Once one of them got chased down and killed by the wolfhounds in the garden here we didn't see another venture in. After that they all stayed out in the fields and woods outside !

Perhaps a fence would be your best bet, if nothing else seems to do.

My mother-in-law used Ivory soap in nylons and hung them from the pickets.

I think it's white tailed deer that are eating my plants.

Doug - go visit the nearest nursery. Ask them about deer repellant.

Deer, around the country, are repelled by different things. Your local nursery should be able to give you the best repelling ideas for your area.

I know there are alot of home remedies...but I've always opted for the best way out...which in some cases involves chemicals!

I've seen posts around the web that call for human urine, for example, to be sprinkled around the plants. The problem around here, however, is that the deer are USED to the humans...and I'm sure that's prevelant in many areas. Human scent doesn't deter them.

Needless to say, we have a bit of a problem with deer in our area...I hope you have better luck Doug!

I noticed this article in my local paper and it occurred to me that there might be something similar in your community. It would require a bit of research on your part, Doug, to find it, but in an area like Cleveland, there's got to be something.

In the lawn, I plugged bamboo sticks, and then tied fishing line from stick to stick.

The height should be about 2 to 3 feet. Deer don't like the feeling of being "tripped". This worked well until DH mowed the lawn and forgot about the "ghost fence". Roll Eyes
