I by no means have a green thumb. I need help. I have an african violet and there is a bulb type thing growing out of it. Is this what they call a sucker? I hear if it is I can start a new plant. Can some one please help. My father would like me to start him one, except I don't know how. I have tried (yesterday) removing a leaf and have the stem in water. Hope it works. But this bulbous thing is driving me crazy.
Thank you

I think you did the right thing by using the leaf. It seems like that is the best way to start new ones. Take the leaf from one of the middle ranks of leaves. Leaves from the outer row are too old and feeble to give you many plantlets. Those closer to the center are too immature. Snap off the leaf close to the base of the stem.

Here is some info that will tell you how to do it in detail. Hope it helps.
