I have so many brugmansia plants now that re-potting them may become an issue. Those large 5 gallon (and up) pots get fairly expensive. I know that I can get plenty of 5 gallon buckets from my workplace. I can drill holes in the bottom and they will work fine.

Does anyone know of some kind of spray paint that will withstand the outdoor elements to "pretty up" these ugly, but useful buckets?

You are so right in asking what kind of paint to use on plastic buckets. Most paints might stick for a short time but won’t last.

I have not tried these yet but they just came out with a spray paint for plastic furniture. I would try one of those. It may take a couple of coats to hide any printing so be sure you wait until the paint dries and cures as this type of paint has a solvent in it to help it bind with the plastic. This solvent may cause the first coat to peal a little so practice a little.

One other thing you might try. Mrs. WoW used contact paper to cover a couple of 5 gal. buckets I brought home for her plants. We grew a grape tomato plant in one last summer.

Chack here. Besides the regular paint, they have textured and hammered finish paint for plastic.
