Animals will probably not be a problem. You should cut waste into small pieces for faster composting, cover any food scraps immediately, and not add meat or fat. Putting a cover on oand/or surrounding it with mesh isn't usually necessary, but can help.

Compost is only vegetation - be it vegetables, or lawn clippings. NEVER meat etc. Compost bins are best when slotted so that air can circulate. You can aide in the process by using things like "rot it" etc. It's up to you. Are you planning a veGie garden? Great stuff to use to get your garden started in the spring! I do it every year.

KK.. I saw this rotating compost bin advertised.. I wish I could remember where I saw it... I thought about buying one for my mom and step-dad. I'll see if I can find it.
