I was doing really well cleaning, yanking, snipping and raking and stuff while I had my gloves on. Then I decided to call it a day and took off the gloves.

I then noticed that I should clean up some old crocosmia stems.. which I did. Suddenly, a piece of stem pierced my hand and the 1 inch sliver lodged itself. OUCH! I could see the line it made, indicating that it was way up to one of my knuckles. ALWAYS wear gloves I yelled to myself... well, not really, but I should have.

I cleaned my hands, pulled out the sliver in one piece (I hope) then applied peroxide. All was well. That was a couple of hours ago.

Well, NOW, I see that the area is TOTALLY swollen. It looks like a small grape stuck under the skin of my right hand..... It's a tad painful when I touch it or move it around. What the heck????

It's freaking me out.

Some plants carry chemicals which can lead to allergic (histamine) reactions. Try using a anti-histimine and see if that works.

a couple of hours is too short of a time for infection to sit in. I'm thinking the plant may have a low level of toxicity which results in a reaction of swelling.

If the swellin continues go to a doctor/ER/Same day clinic with sample of the plant.

Most likely the plant is something you are allergic too and having a bit of it under the skin resulted in a moderate to sever allergic reaction.

Thanks David. It appears quite red and tender today still, but I think it's due to the fact that there still is a piece of something in there.

I'm going to operate this evening. Eek

I think you've been stuck by the rare, but deadly datsit plant. You have about 36 hours from the time of first contact to get all of it out, otherwise, dat's it, finito Benito, adios, доброй ночи. Good luck in getting it out.

Dorian! OMG! How did you know???

I just came back from emergency... and they took tests. Finally they told me that it was a stinging leaf from the "Datsit" plant. They removed the morsel that was still lodged in my hand. The surgeon told me that I was really very lucky to have it removed within 35 and a half hours!!!

UNBELIEVABLE!

I was worried. I know that you are on Canadian time, and, like the Canadian dollar, it might be less that our hours. I'm glad you made it. Big Grin
