Hi kittypal!
I also live in Michigan. I just planted a Hibiscus bush last year. I planted it last fall. I think it was around the end of October. I got worried though because I never had one before and all the snow broke just about all the branches off. Then low and behold, spring came and it sprouted right up again. I guess it grows new branches every year. I have a hybrid bush. The flowers are pink and about 8 inches across. They are beautiful.
Good luck and enjoy yours!

I live in Wisconsin and have a Tropical Hibiscus in a pot..I have to bring it inside once the temps get close to freezing, and then take it back out in the spring after freezing threat is over.

Don't hibuscus' go dormant during the winter? I would love to be able to plant this outside and not have to have a spindly wooden tree in my living room all winter long!

I believe the variety I have needs the warmth even during dormancy...but would appreciate any words of wisdom.

I inherited this Hibuscus from mom-in-law, and I'd never had one before so don't know how much I can abuse it. big grin
