Act I
Sagus has a banana plant... a very cool looking leafy plant that grows into a sturdy low tree (I never saw his old one higher than 3 feet high). Anyway, we got a cutting off of his old one when we moved to PA (easier to transport than a 3 foot tree). Over the last few years it has taken some serious abuse (low light, kids yanking etc). Suffice it to say it was NOT thriving, but it wasn't dying either.. it has a lovely green color but was not growing much is all.

Well, recently it hadn't put out any new leafs for over a year (and it is no where NEAR full-grown).
The boys got into an argument, Sylvan shoved Dustin and Dustin stumbled into this poor plant and broke it off completely about 2 inches up for soil level.
Sagus was extremely upset, but we felt that it was "sayonara" for the Banana plant.
Act II
So, here is this broken off plant stub, 2 inches up, about an inch across in diameter (was a wide stalk). And by God, doesn't this stupid plant start GROWING!
I mean, REALLY growing! In only about 1 month it has grown about 4 inches and is starting to sprout its fouth leaf!!
What gives? Is this the only plant that does this "Pheonix from the Ashes" act? I thought plants died when they were broken off!
