I am new to gardening, so please don't mind my question. I saved some seeds from a purple bell pepper. I know that they need to dry out before I plant them. How long do I let them sit out? And, when is the best time to plant peppers? Thanks.
Peppers prefer warm temperatures, say late spring to plant outdoors as seed, or you can start them indoors around the last of the frost transplanting them when they are about a foot high.
They enjoy full sun (at least 6 to 8 hours a day) and will continue producing all summer long until the first frost kills them. I had a few pepper plants survive for two years producing the second summer.
As for drying the seeds, I leave them spread out on a paper towel for about a day, then I put them in a paper letter envelope. Paper will allow moisture to escape.
I believe sweet peppers (bell varieties) remain viable for 2 years, meaning their chance at germination is optimal for 2 years, dropping drastically each year there after.
