I have little hybrid tea roses that suffered from black spot all summer, and last winter did not do so well under the weight of the snow (and constant whacks from the snow shovel, I’m guessing, but I’m not pointing any elbows). I want to cover them, but not suffocate them or make them get all moldy. I’m sure they sell something outrageously expensive for just this purpose. Any suggestions?

Well, it would not be pretty, but a sawhorse positioned over your roses and draped with landscaper's cloth (or an old sheet) would work... Clear plastic sheeting is an option but only if it does not hit below freezing too often- extreme cold makes the plastic brittle.

Decision: I will in fact build a wall! I'm going to use these stupid cider blocks that have been sitting around in the garage for a year and build a barrier for my roses. I may use some plastic for a roof, I haven't decided, but the wall goes up tonight!!
