Sagus and I were at the grocery store today and we saw that the price of artichokes and asparagus (fresh) are out of this world.

*How difficult would it be to grow these vegetables in an indoor garden?
*What would be needed?
*How long would it take to do this sort of vegetable raising?

I am not aiming to do this very soon, but when we build a home, I was thinking about making a sort of raised platform small vegetable garden. Is this feasable?

Take a look at THIS

I wouldn't recommend growing artichokes indoors. The 2 that I have in my outdoor veGie garden take up an area of about 4x4 feet.

artichoke requires a good deal of room, about 4 x 6 (diameter) feet. It is a perennial - this means it will live for 4-7 years putting off a flower (the artichoke) which you eat. From what I found 3-4 plants would be needed to supply a small family.

Asparagus is also a perennial. If you start off with seed it will take three years before you can eat the shoots. It grows to about 3 feet high.

Both require lots of human interaction for growing and harvesting - thus the price.

cheers
