I am not aiming to do this very soon, but when we build a home, I was thinking about making a sort of raised platform small vegetable garden. Is this feasable?
artichoke requires a good deal of room, about 4 x 6 (diameter) feet. It is a perennial - this means it will live for 4-7 years putting off a flower (the artichoke) which you eat. From what I found 3-4 plants would be needed to supply a small family. Asparagus is also a perennial. If you start off with seed it will take three years before you can eat the shoots. It grows to about 3 feet high. Both require lots of human interaction for growing and harvesting - thus the price. cheers David
