This website explains about bees and wasps. The following paragraph from the article helps explain.. 'Since wasps and bees are attracted to nectar and fruit juices, they may swarm around flowers, ripe fruits and pop and juice containers. Certain wasps species scavenge meat or hunt flies associated with human food and garbage. Proper management of attractive foods and drinks or their open containers is especially important during summertime. This includes making sure that all outdoor garbage receptacles are properly covered. Simple traps baited with sugar water and containing liquid soap to promote drowning, will reduce wasp activity. Such traps, however, should only be considered supplemental to nest control.' I believe the wasps drowned in the sugarwater, and the the sugarwater evaporated.

Maybe try using a shallow container if you want to feed and not kill the wasps.
I hate all sorts of stinging insects (ie Bees, Easps, Hornets, etc) and I kill em everytime I see em in the house or near the house (in walls, etc).
I have a phobia and that ain't gonna change!

I'm with you, Sher! I got bitten by several wasps on my hand last year while picking berries in a tree and my hand ended up being SOOOO swollen that my skin cracked and my finger and hand turned black and blue. It was just gross and it freaked me out! I've been bitten by wasps and bees before - but never with that kind of result. I ended up going to a clinic. There, they told me that the venom of these stingers is getting more and more powerful every year. Maybe I'm now alergic? Who know? I'd HATE to think of one biting me in the neck. OK - Sorry to offend anyone, but I think I will KILL them instead of trying to feed them.
