How is Freemasonry regarded by each of Judaism, Islam and Christianity?

(I have already looked up some articles, and found suggestions that mainstream religions avoid or even condemn Freemasonry.)

I am aware that both Mormons and Catholics prohibit their members from being Freemasons or the the women's counterpart, Eastern Star. My Lutheran relatives, however, were very much involved in them. Fundamentalists condemn them due to the fact they interpret Freemason teachings as saying works get you to Heaven.

Found about free masons from the history channal and the related conspiracy theories.

Wer'nt many US presidents free masons?

Muslims generally do not know about them.

Lot has been said in the hadith about Dajjal. Authentic or not....! i do not know.

I do remember years ago posting this haiith:

Salim said, "'Abdullah Ibn 'Omar said, The Prophet stood up to address the people. He praised Allah as He deserved to be praised, then he spoke about the Dajjal: 'I warn you against him; there is no Prophet who has not warned his people against him, even Noah warned his people against him. But I will tell you something which no other Prophet has told his people. You must know that the Dajjal is one-eyed, and Allah is not one-eyed.'"

At that time I did not know about the free masons nor did i know that one US$ note has as a symbol of god with one eye drawn on it. I found out while watching the free mason program in the history channal.

I do not think the christians are anti-masons but rather their allies.

The question is faulty as I believe free masons developed in the west and Islam has no relation to them. They should even not be linked with Judaism. I suppose if one thing is related or evolved through christanity, one has to relate it to others as well and vice versa.

Whilst the Roman Catholics , the Russian Orthodox and other Christian faiths hold freemasonry to be incompatible with their church, the good old Anglicans hold this a 'matter of debate' (British for 'avoid any debate and please change the subject'). That's not surprising. In the 1950s the Archbishop of Canterbury, Geoffrey Fisher, was a freemason, several bishops had been or were freemasons, as were several members of the Council of the Synod of the Church of England in 1967 , when the matter was discussed there.

For centuries in Europe, freemasonry was a way to get through the glass ceiling...much like P Due and Opus Dei. In the US, most freemasons are on Social Security. All the hocus pocus allegory, the killing of Hiram, handshakes, oaths, don't appeal to younger people.

Dumb question - are the "Shriners" related to Freemasons?

In the US they're pretty much synonymous.

I asked about the Shriners because bik says there is no connection between Freemasonry and Islam yet the Shriners seem to be infatuated with Islam or at least the Arabic world! Their leaders are called "Potentates" and their Fez's are adorned with a scimitar and the Islamic crescent.

Their temples all have Arabic sounding names - the one in my town is called "El-Korah". I found a page with Shriner fez's for sale and they are all embroidered with Arabic, or at least Arabic-sounding, words. One of them actually says "Islam" and another says "Medinah"!

Fez's

So I'm really curious now about the Freemason - Islam connection.

Could the Shriners be (gulp!) a renegade sect of the Freemasons?

Or something less sensational?

But the plot thickens.

The Illuminati???

Babs' second link informs us that 'worshipful' means worthy of being worshipped. That would come as a surprise to mayors in England, who usually bear the title 'The Worshipful Mr ..., the Lord Mayor/ the Mayor ' and are referred to as 'his/her Worship' and to our magistrates, who are called 'their Worships' Big Grin

But seriously, folks, I think the whole Arabic thing comes from a false relationship inferred by the Shriners. They trace themselves back to Hyram the pyramid builder of Ancient Egypt. What they apparently didn't know was that Ancient Egypt had nothing to do with Islam nor Arabic. It's just a case of anachronism.

LOL@ JR's reference to The Fabulous Moolah

Seeing those hats reminded me of Mad's spoof of the Shriners, and the title "Past Participle".
