What is the difference between Rap and Hip Hop? ************************************************************* 06-13-02, 12:16 PM Qwerty I think that hiphop are entire songs devoted to rap and r&b but if there was a pop song with a litte bit of rap in it then that would not be called hip hop. I think it is also largely based on the credit of the artists there area of origin and the definitive sound of hip hop.
06-13-02, 12:36 PM puppyblues So what would you call Kid Rock, who does a little of everything?
06-14-02, 05:33 AM Qwerty I would say mainly rock as I don't think that his hip hop sounds have much credit when comparing them to the sounds of artists and groups such as the Wu Tang Clan, but if someone said what type of music does kidrock do then i would just say rock and hip hop
07-24-02, 04:12 PM honilov rap is mostly talking, and acting to music with no feeling to it. hip hop r&b is mostly singing to music and giving out vibes that you can feel. however, we can relate to rap music because so much of it is real-life situations, whereas, most hip hop r&b music are not real life situations.
08-08-02, 11:31 AM jusork Hip-hop is a type of culture (like goth, punk or mod) and rapping is what you do. Hip-hop is also a style of music when it incorporates these values into the music: breakdancing, MCing, turntablism, and graffiti art. I think Kid Rock is considered a rock artist who incorporates rap among other things. It really depends on which one he focuses on more.

09-29-02, 05:46 AM Ritzmar Socylskills; I'm still grinning at your reply; but Jusork's definition is much closer and I would venture more informed! Go with Jusork, Puppy; he know his stuff in this area. wink
11-07-02, 02:04 AM SeattleRon the diffrences are these.... hip hop is semi-rhyming to a good beat and lots of bass. something you can dance to or bob your head to. for example Puffy daddy, cash money records, all that stuff. Rap tells a story, a story about someones experiences with life with a semi-good beat, but the beat isn't the focus, the rap is the focus. for instance Tupac, Tupac has good beats, but his stories always outshined his beats. rap is for people who have something to say, hip-hop is for performers who are just along for the ride. P.S. Puff daddy is a talentless nobody who makes his caree biting everyone else music and style, screw him and bad boy records.

12-19-02, 04:18 PM jusork Well, with people saying different things here, I'm guessing a lot of people would like to know why we have these different interpretations. Well, I got my original source for what hip-hop is from what the Black Eyed Peas said. This website agrees with them: www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=GRAP&sql=C2
What the other people have said can be true for the most part but I don’t really think it’s a standard. I think it’s kind of like other genres like punk where people have forgotten its basic meaning.

SeattleRon, I'm gonna have to diagree with you here. Puff Daddy is a smart buissnessman and hip-hop entrepenouer who has made his carrer and been so succesful because he is a hard worker and figured out how to work the game and the entertainment industry to make money.
I think Tupac and Death Row records are the ones who have always been dissing everyone else's music and style to get publicity out of it. There was this one occasion where when Death Row was accepting an award they said some nasty things about Puff and invited Bad Boy artists to join thier record label (which they all declined) in front of everyone. Puff fired back and said something to the extent of "I am a positive black man and I think there is no beef here between Death Row and Bad Boy and all us rap and hip hop artists should get along and form a common bond to entertain and make music." He got cheers unlike Death Row who got practically booed off the stage. Puff has always been supportive of all artists and has never dissed anyone, so I think's it's the other way around.
"Dont worry if I write rhymes, I write checks." -Puffy
01-31-03, 01:36 AM SeattleRon I agree he is smart in the business aspect of the industry he does have talent with that. As far as him rapping, well his lines are stolen all the time from Mystikal, Tupac, Busta Rhymes, Too Short. He steals about 96% of his rap lines, none of it makes any sense whatsoever and he's an insult to real rappers. He steals his beats, he steal his raps. I personally and along with many others don't think he has any talent with rapping. Vanilla Ice raps better than him.
He's always all up in the video and contributes nothing to the product except for throwing toothpicks into the camera or dancing around and saying "Bad Boy" every now and then. PUff Daddy should have been shot instead of Biggie or Tupac.
I think he's a bloodsucking leech who made his career hanging around big stars like the Notorious B.I.G. without Biggie Smalls Puff Daddy wouldn't have had the kind of respect he has today. He'd have been a joke. Which I think he is.
01-31-03, 01:40 AM SeattleRon Quote Directly from Suge Knight of Death Row records at the source awards...
"If anybody wants to be an artist, and don't want some sucka all up in their songs and all up in the videos, then come to Death Row"
Tupac and Death Row Records dissed on Bad Boy records because Biggie Smalls stole Tupacs rhymes. Puffy stole tupacs beats and his style. They were all about the eastcoast, then they should have rapped like it. PUffy always ripped off tupac. Puffy hella ripped off Dre, Snoop Daz Dillinger and Kurupt even Warren G, the entire Dogg Pound. Thats why they dissed on Puff all the time and the Notorious BIG.

That's like saying bands who do cover songs are stealing from the original artist.
It's not like they sample all the time though. And I do believe Ghetto Supastar That Is What You Are (by Mya, Pras, and ODB) was original. Anyone could say anyone was a rip off of someone else though.
04-05-03, 04:41 PM mattlynda true... sampling isnt stealing.... my bad and the tune from ghetto superstar isnt original. (the chorus tune) its from islands in the stream.
04-05-03, 06:33 PM jusork Oh my bad too then. I should've looked it up I guess.
