I was recently asked thia question by a friend. He provided the answer, but not all the references to check it.
What singer went the longest period of time between No. 1 singles (weekly charts) on BillBoard's charts ? What were the two songs ?

This site claims of Cher, following Believe hitting No. 1:

"She was now the oldest female ever to hit the top spot owned the longest Billboard chart span between No. 1's ('65 - '99) of any pop recording artist."

The 1965 song was I've Got You Babe, recorded with Sonny Bono.

This Cher Trivia Site makes the same claim.
