I'm looking for information about a song from the 1980s called "Over de muur" (which means "Over the Wall" in English). I believe it is Dutch, but I'm not sure. It is a song about the Berlin wall and cold war ideologies.

I'm trying to find out:

What year was it written?
Who wrote it?
Where was the author from?
What album was it on?

Thanks!

Over de muur (Dutch for Over the wall) is one of the most successful Dutch songs in history. Its success stems from the witty text and the historical value. The song refers to the political differences between East and West of the time, depicting the situation in Berlin with the Berlin Wall as clear boundary. With the song, Klein Orkest first reject Eastern socialism fully along the lines of the common view in the West. But then the song also broadcasts the faults of the West, such as commercialization, racism and poverty. As a whole, it ridicules the Cold War.

The original Dutch lyrics are copyrighted and have been removed by myself because of that. You might find the text at http://www.musiclinks.nl/songteksten/Klein_Orkest/6933.html if you're lucky. The translation to English is all mine and will be here to stay: - The Egglish lyrics re here.

This is all the information I could find on this in English. However, if anyone can read Dutch, there are a few sites.

Thanks, DG. That's all I was able to find, as well. Those lyrics in English are very helpful!

If anyone out there knows enough Dutch to be able answer those 4 questions, let me know!

The lyrics were written by Harrie Jekkers, who was born in the Hague on 1 July 1951. The Group known as "Klein Orkest" was formed in 1978 and made three LPs before it was disbanded in 1985. I don't know which of the three first featured "Over de muur", but bedstor has tracked it down for you on the "Best Of" compilation.

Found it! It's on the album entitled "Later is al lang begonnen" ("Later started long ago)", which was released in 1984 (Side 1, Track 1).
