A German song titled "Romantika" (spelling?) which was very popular from November 1959 to July 1962. It was sung solo in German language by a female artist. Would appreciate help in verifying the title, finding the name of the artist, and a source where I might purchase a recording.

According to an online translator, romantika isn't a word in German. Romantik is though. Do you know if there might be more words to it or if it just one word? And do you mean it was popular in Germany or the US? I'm still looking. Haven't found anything yet.

The person who has asked me about this song tells me that it was a very popular German song in Germany when he was stationed with with the 34th Infantry in Ausburg, Germany from November 1959 to July 1962. He also says that the American GIs were buying it on 45RPM records. He is "not sure if 'Romantika' is the correct title." He remembers that the female singer had a voice similar to the voice of Marlene Dietrich.

If Jenny is right, and she usually is,you may have a problem purchasing a copy of this.
The only copy I can find of her singing Romantica in German is on Amazon.com and it's an import boxset entitled Lass Mir Die Bunten Traume priced at $131.49.
UK Amazon have a CD of her singing it in English Best of Connie Francis but this seems to be unavailable in the US.
I've also tried to find an audio sample of Connie Francis singing Romantica but can't find one anywhere, this included going into the German Itunes store. If you go to Itunes and switch over to the German site, click on the link 'Erweitarte Suche' (which i'm guessing is German for Power Search) type Romantica into the 'titel' box. It comes up with various versions of songs called Romantica in German and other languages (including a version by British comedian Ken Dodd!)you can then listen to samples of these songs and see if any are what you are looking for.
Hope this was of some help Viv

Following this up and using Jenny and Viv's input, I've discovered that the song "Romantica" was a big hit for Dalida in 1960. Dalida recorded in several different languages and I know she did this one also in German. Additionally, her voice is rather more like Marlene Dietrich's compared to Connie Francis (or even Ken Dodd). Could this be it? I'm sure it will be easy to track down and there's probably a song sample somewhere on amazon.fr or amazon.de.

I'm sure your suggestion of Dalida is exactly what I had in mind. A 45 RPM record of the song by her was listed on GEMM. I have purchased it from a seller in Argentina. Thank you very much for your help, it appreciated.
