These were announced this morning:

2008 Nominations

I was so pleased to see "Juno" get some nominations. It's a wonderful little film. Ellen Page certainly deserves all the recogition she has received for playing the pregnant teenager, Juno, in this poignant, but funny story. I thoroughly enjoyed this film.

Has anyone seen "Atonement"? That would be my pick, at the moment, for best movie this year. I have yet to see, "There Will Be Blood" and "Michael Clayton."

Any other opinions on this year's nominations?

Seems strange not to see Angelina Joile with a nomination, and even stranger to see a panned movie that nobody (critics and audience alike) cared much for getting Cate Blanchett nominated.

I am thinking Depp just might get the Best Actor win in a year with not that many stellar performances (Yeah... I know... Daniel Day-Lewis... but I am hoping against hope).

For the most part it looks like business as usual in that many of the films nominated are artsy-fartsy "message films" that I would not watch if they were on PBS.

Good to see Hal Holbrook finally get a nod though. He might win on sentimentality alone ! (Hell, that's how Scorcese finally won).

I've still got lots of movie watching to do. I want to see most of the ones nominated though. The only ones I've seen are Eastern Promises and Bourne Ultimatum. I think Viggo could win best actor in that role. Atonement does look pretty good. And I can't wait to see Juno.

Hi Jusork,
I haven't seen "Eastern Promises." Would you recommend it?
I hope you like "Juno." It's one of my favourites this year.

Have a look at the preview on YouTube:
Juno

The screenplay is very well written. I think if the film wins nothing else, Diablo Cody will pick up an Oscar for that. I'd really like to see Ellen Page win though.

Spit, I think Depp might just win this year too. Smile
