I'm looking for my uncle. He was an actor in the 40's and 50's. His stage name was Johnny Sands. Probably his best known role was that of Jerry White, boyfriend to Shirley Temple's character in The Batchelor and the Bobby Soxer. We lost touch with Johnny a long time ago. He and my mother were step-siblings (her mom married his dad)..she was the only sister he ever had, and he was her only brother. Mother is now 80 and nearly blind, and I'd love to find her brother for her, before it's too late. We've tried the Search programs, and they either want his SSN (like we'd have that) or they send you a list of everyone in the country with that name, and you then have to call them all. Here is a link to his filmography according to MSN http://entertainment.msn.com/celebs/celeb.aspx?c=232019
If anyone has any information, even a date of death, it would be appreciated

[This message was edited by Cyndiluwho_99 on 10-17-03 at 02:32 AM.] ++++++++++++++ 10-17-03, 12:12 PM kittypal Cyndi, do you know his real name??? I have done an extensive search and came up with only 4 movies that he was in, he appeared in more, but apparently the roles were too small to give a list. The big movies were
Blaze of Noon 1947 Til the End of Time 1946 Adventure in Baltimore 1949 and of course The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer
I wonder if you contacted the movie studios or perhaps a fan page for one of his co-stars, if they may know?
I will keep trying, I am on a mission! Wink
10-17-03, 12:16 PM kittypal ..Also, do you have his approximate age, where did they grow up, do you know where he last lived? I did a phone book search and came up with 145 John Sands, can narrow it down if we know an age or possible location. Thanks!
10-17-03, 12:42 PM kittypal Also a song about Johnny Sands marrying Betty Haig, just a song or one writen because of him???
10-17-03, 12:48 PM Georgia85 He was actually in 19 movies. He also goes by the name John Sands or Johnny Spencer. He was born April 29, 1927 in Lorenzo Texas.
I know this doesn't answer your question but it provides a little more info for you to search on.
10-17-03, 12:53 PM Cyndiluwho_99 That's correct, Georgia...his birth name is Elbert D Harp Jr.

10-17-03, 01:14 PM Cyndiluwho_99 We have contacted everyone we know to contact over the years, including SAG. The website says his birthday is 4/29/27 but mother is fairly certain it was 1928. He went to high school in Plainview TX, but didn't graduate from there. His mother's first name was Ora and she was married to Elbert Harp Sr. Don't know her maiden name. He was married briefly to a woman named Sue Allen, formerly of Plainview, now of Houston. We've talked to her, and she doesn't remember a thing.
10-17-03, 01:39 PM Georgia85 Cyndi, there is only one listing for an Elbert Harp...and it happens to be in Abernathy Texas. Do you suppose that might be him?
10-17-03, 01:48 PM Cyndiluwho_99 No...We've talked to that man...it's not him...no relation....siiiighs
10-17-03, 01:54 PM Georgia85 Well the good news is he is not listed in the Social Security Death Database...
10-17-03, 03:08 PM Cyndiluwho_99 Y'all are so great to help with this....My sister and I are at our wits' ends...
Kitty, I think that song is a coincidence...I looked at it and didn't see any connection, and Mother knew of no one named Betty Haig.
Georgia...how the heck did you DO that???
10-17-03, 03:27 PM Georgia85 I went the Social Security Database and entered in his name and birthdate. Big Grin
But after you said there was a descrepancy with his birthdate I just went back and entered his name.
10-18-03, 02:22 AM Cyndiluwho_99 A few years ago, before hackers were so commonplace, Paul Harvey did a story about an agent named John Sands whose identity had been stolen by a hacker. I think that's how the story went...unfortunately I didn't get to hear what the "rest of the story" was, so I couldn't tell if there might have been a connection.
It would seem logical to me, though, that someone whose acting days were over might become an agent. I just don't know how to go looking down THAT road...
any ideas ladies??
10-18-03, 03:18 PM clarebear I'm still looking. I now know more about Johnny Depp then I ever wanted to know. He keeps coming up. Roll Eyes
I used a few death indexes and he didn't show up there.
Maybe you could try writing one of the movie studios? (MGM or others) You could try writing to E! or Entertainment Tonight. Confused
If I find out anything I will let you know.
Good Luck to you. Smile
Write Entertainment Tonight: et@pde.paramount.com
or
ABC, Inc. 500 S. Buena Vista Street Burbank, CA 91521-4551

10-19-03, 02:54 PM kittypal Cyndi, I e-mailed a few of the talk shows known for reunions and contacted the news just for info on how to go about this, hav not had a reply yet, maybe because it's the weekend. I'll keep trying! Smile
10-19-03, 05:18 PM Cyndiluwho_99 You're a PEACH, Kitty!!
10-19-03, 09:31 PM Kelleygirl Just an idea---have you (or could you) check with the actors' union or actors' guild? They might keep records of members throughout the years----and I think that you must belong to be an accredited actor/actress.
10-19-03, 09:51 PM Kelleygirl Here is a website that I found for actors' guild:
10-20-03, 01:15 AM Cyndiluwho_99 We've already contacted SAG, Kelley...they said they didn't know who is was....which we found odd, considering the number of movies he was in...but they insisted.
08-22-04, 11:17 PM Cyndiluwho_99 Thanks to all who helped to search for information on my Uncle Johnny. I found this on the IMDB website last night.
