Posted Long long long long ago (read at least 30 years) I read JRR Tolkiens creative work of the same name. I rewatched the movies yesterday (we own them, I loved them so well) and I have a question about a certain event at the very end of the 3 films. My question is this: Bilbo goes off with the last of the Elves and Gandolf, well, given his age, I can understand that. But why did FRODO HAVE to go? It seemed he was, well, obligated to go somehow. Being so young, why did he leave?

dg Diamond Enthusiast	Posted Hide Post So far as I understand it, Frodo was a ring bearer, and all those that went with Gandalf had wielded that power. It was seen as an honour to go. Besides this, Frodo needed to go; he was beginning to show signs of aging, and the long burden of carrying the ring. So he set sail to the Undying Lands to find relief from his pain. or...was it unrequited love for Sam?

Posted Hide Post All those who had lived thier lives under the influence of the ring, were required to leave, because the new age would be one without the influence of those who wielded the power of the ring. The elves lived thier lives under the power of the three rings for the elven lords. Both bilbo and frodo were major wielders of the "one ring to rule them all...." therefore they too, where required to leave.

That's isn't the way I read it, Leppi. Frodo's departure was his own decision, based on a number of factors. He didn't leave as a result of a requirment.

Posted Hide Post Leppi, that's ok. I am not expert on LOR, either. I had to ask some of the die hard fans I live with, for their opinions. Sher, I hope the answers given were of some help, as you didn't respond, I was left wondering. At times I feel I am given the cold shoulder on this site, for whatever reason. There are many times I have offered advice and opinions to members, and my posts are never even acknowledged. It's becoming discouraging.
