Hello. I installed a Sony burner in my tower about a year and a half ago, and in the past 6 months, when I'm copying a CD, the burner has been slower and slower to start up (engine revving, pausing, revving, pausing...), and now it won't copy at all - I always get an error message. Here's what I've tried to fix it -

* Gone to the help site, nothing helped
* Cleaned the laser eye with a cleaning kit

Sound familiar? Am I forgetting to try something? Would it help to put the booting disc back in, and reinstall the whole program? Should I just call the burner dead and get a new one? Any help please, thanks a lot.

Are you running any other programs while burning a CD? If so, perhaps your system is over extended with multiple tasks. Try burning the CD with no other applications running.

Do you have lots of spyware running on your system? If so, these pests may be robbing your system of the necessary system resources.

You can check for and remove spyware with the following steps:

Try this link to check for common browser Hijacks: Parasite Check

Please be sure to scan your system with updated versions of both Ad-Aware and Spybots. One of these programs may find and remove the offending program file(s). Help with Ad-Aware and Spybots: Okay, Teach Me

Also, there are many free programs available for download that claim to be spyware removers. Many of these programs don't remove spyware, but rather they are themselves spyware programs.

If spyware problems persist, I suggest you download the program "HijackThis" from this page, then use the Help Forum link to post your HijackThis log for assistance.

Please note, serious damage can occur if incorrect entries are deleted, so be careful about only following advice from trained technicians. This link is a good one to use: PcPitStop

Note: you can also use the PCPitStop.com site to scan your system for spyware: Spyware Check

Once you have successfully removed the problem program file(s), I suggest you download, install and run "SpywareBlaster" which will help with keeping these pests off of your system. SpwareBlaster

If any of these spyware programs are found, removing them should free up your system resources and help with the CD burning problem. All of the programs and services mentioned above are available free of charge.

I hope something here helps!
