Sorry I'm so paranoid, but I'd like to run a virus check because my computer running under XP is running slower and slower. I did run ccleaner two days ago and deleted a lot of stuff but didn't help much, and now it's worse than ever. So I wonder if I have a virus.

There are lots on the net. Are any of them safe to use? My screener is Shaw Secure. Shaw is the cable company and ISP.

Here is a link to TrendMicro's online checker... it will check for Viruses, Adware & Grayware... Works quite well & even removes.

I tried to run it but it failed. I e-mailed Trend's tech support Housecall@support.trendmicro.com
as follows:
quote:
I am trying to run housecall on my XP machine running under Mozilla. I get this message:

Warning : the HouseCall-API did not define a Native Binding

I have let the program run for one hour and the monitor is still saying "Opening Trend Micro HouseCall"

Does it sound as if it's working correctly? How long does it usually take to run?

I got an e-mail from postmaster@trendmicro.com telling me the message was not delivered.

Any ideas as to what I should do ? Do you know what the error "Warning : the HouseCall-API did not define a Native Binding" means?

p.s. I tried to run it under both Mozilla and IE. Both got the same result.

A normal run is about 1 hr. I have just started a run to try it out & it seems to be running. What other Anti-virus & Adware programs do you have on your computer? If you don't have any, download either AVG FREE EDITION or AVAST 4 they are both good & both FREE.
You should also download SPYBOT and AdAware which are both Spyware/Adware finders, and also SpyWareBlaster which is a Spyware preventer. Download & run these programs & then, try TrendMicro again...
Good Luck.

avast is good anti virus . you might check the running processes too maybe you have too many things running. try turning some of them off.
typing msconfig in the run comand thingy will show you some stuff and some of it you can disable and some you can not. someone here has a better knowlege of that than me.ive got a list some where .you got to be carefull in there. have you googled online virus checker i did that and found a few.

AVG free edition is a bugger to remove, should you get tired of waiting while it scans everything, every time you start up. You can disable part of it, but then it pops up screaming, "ALARM!! Help! I've been disabled! ALARM!" every thirty seconds.

Spybot will scan for free, but is now charging to remove. I have Avast and like it very much.
