This is a matter of setting the "File Associations" to the Windows Media Player. There are two methods you can use to do this. Right click on your My Computer Icon and choose "Explore". In the Explore window, click on "Tools", then Folder options. In the Folder options window, click on the View tab and uncheck the option to hide file extensions of known types. Then (1) Navigate to the music file that you wish to play with WMP. Right click on the file and choose "Open With". In the Open With menu, choose "Choose Program" and check the "always use this program to run files of this type" option. OK you selection.

Open WMP Maximize the window Click Tools/Options Click File Types tab Check the File types you wish to associate with WMP Click the OK button to complete. I hope this helps!
