Hi, I have the Adobe Flashplayer and Shockwave player installed. I have a DVD that needs both of these but it does not recognize them. It sends me to reinstall them and -- nothing.
Sometime in January I installed the SP3 and have been finding little things here and there that are out of wack. bedstor helped me get my sound back at the time(Thank you bedstor). Any ideas how I can get these two programs to function. The DVD player does play other DVDs. The nonfunctioning DVD is the instructions/tutorials for a book on photoshop.

The 2 players seem to function on the web.

The extension *.flv, and *.swf seem to be associated wrongly. Neither player shows up in the list where you can go to choose a program to play something.
Sorry I'm rambling. Will it work if I uninstall
the programs and delete the extensions in Control Panel > folder Options File Types?
Thank if you can help. mks

I play all my DVDs/CDs regardless of regional code with VLC Media Player which is a Free download
I Heartily recommend it
www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
16MB download(Version 0.9.9)

Only Item you need to update or make sure you have it before installing this, is Quicktime
www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Ignore the "Itunes" version

Setting file associations:
In Windows XP, right click on a file with the extension that you wish to set (*.flv or *.swf for example).

Choose Open With from the right-click menu.

Then select "Choose Program".

Select the program you want to associate with the file type

Check the option "Always use the selected program to this type of file type".

I hope this helps!

Hi bedstor, thank you for your reply.
I installed the VLC player. No go.
It plays the .flv -- sort of.
There is a yellow stripe(2"wide)that pulses and the sound is bad. VLC does not play .swf at all.

Hi Dwight, thank you for replying.
Unfortunately the two programs do not show up in the list where you associate extensions.
That's IS the problem.

Well, I'll have to make do with the book that came with the DVD. The DVD played when I first got it. Things got in the way - life you know Roll Eyes
Thank you both, much appreciated.

MKS the only thing it may be is your Flash driver is out of date/corrupt?
Install this FLV Player and what happens if you try play your Disk?
Plays /no play?
Process of elimination Smile

The VLC Player is very reliable but it depends on drivers being "up to date"

If you have another fail then Visit http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and Download from that page click on the Yellow button
and try again.with VLC.
Any Joy now? Roll Eyes

Thanks bedstor,
I have decided to give up on this issue.
It affects, as far as I can tell, only the one disk. I do have an older version of QuickTime (on pupose). Apple made a change and none of my many older .mov files would play. So I went back to an older version of QT. If my .mov tutorials play on QT then I don't need the VLC. Really don't like that icon, and it takes over. I will uninstall VLC and just work with my BOOK for CS3(what a concept!)
Thank for your responses.
