windows restarting by its self

I am having a problem with windows restarting by its self. I just installed windows 2k pro and I installed IE 6.1. Now my computer just restarts while I am using it. I erased my partition, repartitioned, reformatted, and then reinstalled windows again. After doing this I am still having this happen occasionally. This is for a new computer that I just put together so this may also be a hardware issue. This is only happening intermittently and there are no error that precedes. Any ideas would help immensely.

I had a similar experience with a computer I built. The nasty thing was, there were TWO problems!! #1 was in the BIOS and required the resetting of the RAM CL from 2.0 (high performance) to 2.5 (standard setting). The second "fix" was to update the ATI drivers for my All In Wonder 7500.
Suggest you carefully review the RAM clock settings, check for driver updates for ALL your hardware, and check your mother board manufacturer for any BIOS updates.

I tried the suggested fixes. The only one item that made a difference was changing the clock setting. Now things do not restart but they are locking up instead. I will adjust them a few more times to see if it improves.

Regarding RAM clock settings, choose the highest number available for latency, delays and precharge times, etc. Also, if there is an option to increase the RAM speed (this may be a ratio, or something like PCI_Clk+33), verify it's set properly.
