I have Windows XP SP2. Fwdrv.sys causes the blue screen of dath. Is there a way to fix it or should I uninstall?

If you have Win XP with SP2, do a System Restore.

I don't think that System Restore is such a good idea right now. One of the new programs must be incompatible with my firewall.

All the information I can gather would lead me to the conclusion that you may simply need to update your Kerio Personal Firewall. The older version seems to have conflicts with a number of other programs.

maybe try a different firewall. then restore the system and disable the firewall. maybe just
wipe the whole thing clean and start over with out the firewall then try another one.
ive had many problems with different firewalls and the fix has been so far to use a router firewall thingy along with xp's. as far as a fix i dunno, sorry. have you contacted the firewall people to see if they have a fix and did you disable xp's firewall first.

somebody else reported the same thing
www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,3715873?hilite=fwdrv+sys
though the post is from 2002 Roll Eyes

Suggest you try an upgrade? ...but the Kerio firewall has been rebranded to Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall and is on version 4.3.268

www.filehippo.com/download_kerio_personal_firewall/

Download this file to open later go offline

Uninstall the old version... open this version
and install it then go back online may have to allow or disallow some things

And do turn off the Windows firewall if its enabled? (on the Security Center on the Control Panel )its only good for temporary protection!

This is what I have, but it is not compatible with Prevx1. I have uninstalled Prevx to make sure that this is what is causing the problem.

Prevx1 ... I'm not familar with this program
I have SpywareBlaster ,Adaware and Avast! as part of my front line defence together with Windows Defender and they work well together Smile

Could be your Prevx1 program has glitched? on an update and the firewall is reporting a "fault?" Though the Prevx1 program won't tell you! Confused
without first-hand evidence, the install and reinstall method will produce results
especially if you have only recently installed or updated this program or something similar? Smile

I have tried to reinstall the program, but got the blue screen of death on rebut. After uninstalling the program the problem seems to go away. At least I didn't have any problems so far. Will post here if I do. Do you want me to give you a link to Prevx1, so you can read about it?

Me thinks the Prevx1 program does not want to work with the Kerio firewall and the result is a BSOD Mad

Just looked at the screen shot of the Prevx1 Program and It has a passing resemblance to Ad-Aware SE Personal which is stable, does the same thing and is free
www.lavasoft.de/products/adaware_se_personal.php

Only downside is you have to manually upgrade it once per week
If you have this already dump the Prevx1 as they are doing almost the same job

Prevx1 is good adition to firewall or can be used insted of firewall. Don't think Ad-Aware does that. I had writen to Prevx1 suport, but no reply from tham so far. Will write to tham again today and to Kerio to.

I had writen to Sunbelt and Prevx about the problem. Sunbelt had wrote that they will test Kerio and Prevx1 to see what the problem is and make a patch.

Poor you !
Can you tell me if your Windows updates are up to date? These target problem areas

2nd item Old Registry items pointing nowhere
They can be cleared by Crapcleaner www.ccleaner.com on the "Issues" icon
There is a good Finnish program Easycleaner which I used to use before Crap cleaner and you can give it a try (freeware) is only 2.5 MB big is more orientated toward Registry cleaning than the other program, but is easy to use.Never caused any issues with me
Only downside is it is a bit slow and may need to scan twice to clear everything. Roll Eyes

3rd A Checkdisk scan is needed

4th A Hijackthis scan and a log sent to a specialist forum who can tell you what needs to be removed

Now try either of the programs in Step#2
And also run a "full" spyware scan manually if you have a program to do that, such as Avast!,Ad-Aware,AVG,Windows Defender... ect.
this may clear some thing
There are events called "false positives" where a spyware program identifies a legit process as a "Bogie" and either reports it or jams the program up. Due to a misloaded update or a glitch Ad-Aware has had some in recent months but On some forums the other members sing out if something is amiss and the issue is rectified fast but if you are a casual upgrader and not on a forum ,there is a small chance you could be left with a malfunctioning browser Frown
And problems start elsewhere in time and the root cause is hard to pin down Frown
Thats why the Hijack this Forums are so busy
The Log readers have to unravel the good from the bad and suggest things to do.
It's an endless task for them Frown

I have ran antivirus and spyware, cleaned the ragistry, ran disc scan and posted HijacThis log. Had no problems today, so maybe there was some problem with computer. Also Spyware Terminator flaged stubInsteller.exe as 180searchAssistant. Is it a "false positive?"

Looks that way if you have never installed that
From the sound of it I think you may be in need of a more positive spyware scanner ?
Spyware Terminator? Never heard of that program
Have a long list of How good or bad these programs perform somewhere shall get back to you on this

Spyware Terminator has been flagged in the past as linking to a spyware company is Clean now but... the Proof is how often does it update?
daily, weekly, monthly?
Here is a page from a colleagues web site
Has nearly all the reliable links you'll need to tighten up your security and you can uninstall your other antispyware programs
NOTE: Page has not been updated for a while

PS Download install Windows Defender as well this is quite strong updates daily (5 MB)
