Ok, I give up. I have several basic (stupid) questions I ought to have learned about long ago:

1. How do I move my quick launch (Start) bar from the side to the bottom where it was?

2. What does "bling" mean? How about "ping?"

3. Every time I leave my laptop even for just a few minutes, I have to sign in again. If I close the lid just a little bit, I have to sign in again. Every time my cursor slips off the side of the screen, screen saver immediately comes on.

Help! Catty is stuck!

1 - Left click & hold, drag the "Start" bar to wherever you want it to go. The "Lock Toolbar" has to be unchecked.
2 - I will let someone else answer this one.
3 - Right click anywhere on your "Desktop", choose "Properties". This brings up your "Display" also found inside the "Control Panel", Go to "Screen Saver", choose "Power" when you get there, select the "Advanced" tab, there should be a pull down menu for "When you Close The Lid On My Portable Computer", I have "Do nothing" selected on mine. Also, while you're there, there is an option for "Prompt for Password when computer resumes from standby", uncheck this. Click "Apply" & "Okay". You are now back @ your main "Screen Saver" page. You may want to uncheck the "On Resume, Password Protect". Click "Apply", "Okay" & you're done.

Thank you, cswchan, and bedstor. Bedstor, Bling may be a slang term for chunky jewelry in the UK but I think it means something else in the US. Anyone?

No sounds, I keep mine muted. And what about "ping?"

I changed my email address several days ago but am still not getting my notifications.

Is it AP or is it me?

What I wanted to do was to thank cswchan - good advice, should do the job.

Bling-bling (or just bling) is just slang for 'jewellery', something sparkly to ornament your body. Needn't be chunky. It came from hip-hop slang as bling-bling, but is now mainstream. The rapper who coined the term, I forget his name, said that 'bling' was the sound that light makes when it hits sparkly jewellery. Big Grin

Catty, I am getting my notifications. I just checked yours, and if your e-mail address is correct, you should be getting yours, too. Do you have a spam guard active? If so, it may be blocking the notifications.

I'm sure I have a spam guard, but I don't know how to find it. I have a junk mail filter but you are on my safe list. I get other notifications but haven't had many from AP since you took over. I was getting a digest at my address but couldn't read it. Maybe I should be getting them, but I'm not.

Hey, Dorian, I went to "Preferences" under my profile and there are boxes to be checked for how you want your notifications delivered. As I suspected, the box was unchecked. I have checked it before - perhaps it's not holding.

Thanks.

A ping is a test packet sent across a network to another computer to confirm a working connection. Upon receiving a ping, the remote computer returns a reply, called a pong. (a.k.a. ICMP PING)

Kinda like saying "Marco!" to have someone else reply with "Polo!". Or the ping-pong of sonar, if you prefer that analogy.

"Ping" is also a term used in the corporate environment that means to contact someone by sending a message to their interactive pager.
