This is because Outlook is "Flagged" to run on the Startup list.
To disable this click on the Start button (offline)
and in the "Run" box type " msconfig "
click OK
From here you are on your own
The new box has several Tabs
Click the Tab Marked "Startup" (farthest right)

Now here is a big list ...Look down it and untick any item/s that say Outlook or MSOutlook
Then click the Apply button OK?
Next click on the "Services Tab" (2nd from right) Another big list . Look for the same on this List untick as needed Press Apply then the OK button..
Message will flash up asking for a Reset Accept it!
Computer resets and a Message is displayed saying the Startup settings have been altered

(giving you a chance to forget what you did)
But agree to the change and you never see that message again Smile
Now... the Startup seuquence continues, What has happened? Outlook hasn't opened this time?
And, the Icon for the same is Not showing by the Clock?
Can now only run it from the Start menu Smile

Look in the Start/All Programs list for a folder named "Startup".

Open it and see if Outlook or Office is listed. If so, right click on it and choose "Delete".

This does not harm the program itself, only the shortcut calling for Outlook to run automatically on startup.

If this doesn't solve the problem (that is, it is not listed in the startup folder) repost with the Operating System that you're running.

Also, are you using MS Outlook as you email program? If you're not using this program, you can safely uninstall only the Outlook program and leave the rest of MS Office installed.

If this option is appealing, post again and I will give more detailed instructions on how to do this.

I hope something here will help!

I hve a friend who is stuck with an icon that says there are updates for outlook and ms cannot find the program in her computer. I do not want to have this probem arise.

I need to be sure that you're following the pathway correctly.

It is Start/All Programs/Startup

Startup is a folder in the programs menu. I mean for you to look in that folder to see if there is a shortcut to your Outlook or Office.

Somewhere in your system is a command line requiring Windows to open Outlook at startup. The two most likely locations are what Bedstor posted and what I posted, There could be a command line in the Services, but it is not likely.

Are you sure you're getting your computer shut off properly? That it is not going into hibernation or Energy Saving mode? If it is not shutting down, it may be coming out of hibernation or Energy Saving mode with the Outlook open.

Once again you have come through for me. I turned off the computer and restarted and now outlook does not pop up anymore. I cannot understand why this happened or how it got corrected but I did as you said and all is well now.

Once again I am a Luckyladee to have such support form Answer Pool.
