Open with ... Perhaps I should say "Open withOUT...".
Running Win XP Pro.
While opening a certain temp file with Notepad, I mistakenly left the "Always use the selected program to open this type of file" box checked. (I noticed this with dismay just as I clicked the OK button.)
Now I don't know how to undo this. How can I remove Notepad as the default program without specifying another?
I know you folks can help. Thanks so much for any suggestions.

Unless there is a problem with this program just unticking the box will be sufficient and pressing OK (I'm on the same setup) try reopening the file (via Right-click) and select "Open with..." from the menu and see what happens? Ps I view those files without touching the tick box in the viewing options just click the file option (makes no change to the prog. file) only worry is if there is a file has changed message box might come up? reply NO Keeps the Status Quo

Thanks bedstor but that doesn't solve the problem. Notepad appears under "Recommended programs" and there is no check box to uncheck.
I've tried going to My Computer > Tools > Folder options > File Types and then highlighting .tmp and clicking the Change button but I can't delete the file association itself. I can only change it to another program.
I guess what I really want is to have the "Open with" dialog box open when I try to open .tmp files like it used to before I wretchedly left that "Always use the selected program to open this type of file" box checked.
Anyone know how to do tbat? I'm OK with editing my registry if someone can tell me where to look for file associations.
***** Editing this now... a few minutes after posting this reply.
FIXED IT!!
Went into My Computer > Tools > Folder options > File Types again. Scrolled down and highlighted the file type .tmp, and selected Delete.
Restarted the computer - fixed.
Thanks all.
